And This is Why I'm a Little Worried . . .

OK, I changed my mind about not putting up any pictures of Zekers, but you can see how bad it is. Any suggestions??

Aquaphor! It's made by Eucerin...it comes in tubes (like toothpaste) and you can find it at Wal-Mart. It's like a really thick salve. I had to leave student teaching early one day last year because my chapped lips went all the way up to my nose like Zeke's!
I know you said he is sucking them alot, but also your mouth area can dry up like that from too much potassium. That was my issue. Is he eating lots of bananas?

i think i would try nanny lauren's suggestion. i use that stuff on my feet and it's super hydrating. maybe he won't like the taste of it and will quit sucking, too.

and then there are bribes....

I have to say I use either aquafor or Mary Kay extra emolient night cream for all my kids chapped issues. I also agree that maybe he won't like the taste of it , so maybe he will quit.
oh to be in college again, actually I never had free time when I was in college. I guess college kids have it a lot easier now. Charity, you and I worked 80 hours a week on our weeks off just to help pay for college! I guess it's different these days.

i would not say college kids watching our 4 is "having it a lot easier."

obviously, marissa is not afraid of work.

shoemama - i'm pretty sure marissa is on the same college plan we were. she worked her hiney off all summer to save for school, just like we did. i don't remember ever working 80 hours over spring break, though! btw, did you know that Grace, which is about the least expensive Christian school, is up to over $25,000/yr. now? yikes! i'm thinking we should have started saving for our kids' college education as soon as we graduated!

marfin - the kiddos would be very upset with us if
we didn't take you up on that offer. We'll be in touch!

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. i'm going to have to make a trip to wal-mart ASAP . . . .

yeah IWU is actually one of the least expensive schools in the state and the tuition here is about 28,000....for a non-nursing student! pre-med and nursing majors get to buy all the extras like $400 in books for ONE class...scrubs, stethescope, etc....its great fun! haha...but hey, we dont spend money on our social life because...oh wait....we dont have one! haha

Oh my goodness! Poor Zeke! I second the aquaphor suggestion. That or A & D diaper cream. (It's really just a combo of lanolin and vaseline) If you could find something that was effective, but not tasty...perhaps that would help? Like Vicks or carmex? Vicks might burn a little though.

In a word: OW!!!!!!
That looks painful! I agree with something for hydration that tastes terrible. ((sorry zeke!))
By the way, I've updated my blog!

Hey Charity,

Hannah used to develop this same condition every winter. My solution was both cheap and simple. I just pretended that she wasn't my child, in fact I didn't even KNOW her for several weeks a year. You'll be glad to know that she's 18 years old now and has finally learned not to lick her lips in the cold weather.
Love,
Aunt Lisa
